Breaking the Box: Escape the Limits of a Fixed Mindset

Do you feel like your life is limited to the roles you play in society? Maybe it’s time to change that paradigm.

Are you trapped in a box, holding on to beliefs that were formed during your early childhood – beliefs that are limiting you in any way? You have a certain image of who you are and take that as the absolute truth?

That is how I felt. Defined through the lens of others. An identity that I acquired through social conditioning.

However, I was not even aware of the trap until I broke free! While living in a box without windows and a locked door it is impossible to see what is beyond.

And if there is nothing beyond the solid wall, a belief that I had no reason or evidence to question, there is no need to leave the comfort zone. But the known is a trap – true freedom can only be found in the unknown.

A typical Fixed Mindset syndrome.

I had what Carol Dweck in her book Mindset calls: A Fixed Mindset

The belief that intelligence, talents, abilities and character traits are fixed and there is little  you can do in order to change that.

Believes create reality – I was an average human being with no special talents. I need to do what society expects me to do: get an education, get a job – grind until I retire and hope to have some years left to enjoy life before I wither and die.

The mind is everything. What you think you become.” – Buddha

Genius exists – but there are few born that way. The rest, the 99%, will never achieve anytime worth pursuing.

This belief is far from the truth – however you cannot see it as long as your mind is trapped.

When something shatters the walls of the ego, when the shell around yourself gets porous and starts cracking – you can suddenly see beyond your shadows.

You get a glimpse of that which has been hidden from you all along – you see a light shining in the distance illuminating your true identity.

The day(s) everything changed for me:

It was my first ayahuasca ceremony that filled me with a love for life and a joy of being alive that I had never experienced before.

I realized there is a life beyond my self-imposed limitations.

It was an awakening to a truth that there is something more to life than what I can explain with my logical mind. Something that is far greater than the ego self.

But what is it? This experience ignited a fire of curiosity that kept on building and fueling every action I take – even today.

As a result of my ayahuasca ceremony and my newfound childlike curiosity, I was introduced to breathwork.

An experience that made me question everything I have learned about life so far and everything I believed to be true about myself!

The experiences opened my mind to new possibilities and showed me how to overcome limitations. Breathwork turned into a tool for deep self inquiry. A tool what continues to teach me how to remove every roadblock that is in between me and the best version of myself.

Through daily reading and writing I embodied the concept of what Carol Dweck calls a Growth Mindset:

The belief that abilities. talents, intelligence and character can be developed through dedication, hard work, and learning.

Ultimately what I gained:: A greater sense of freedom than I have not experienced before.

When you are trapped in a box:

You won’t be able to see past your limitations, you won’t see the need or the possibility to push through your limitations. And you won’t be able to understand or even consider the point of view of others.

What’s in it for you?

When you get out of the box, the image of yourself that was defined through the lens of society and created a faulty perception of self

Imagine discovering you have the power to redefine who you are, independent of what others expect. That’s the freedom you’ll find when you step outside your box.

You realize that your past does not define who you are today. Your current state: your intelligence, emotions, talents, character, abilities are just a snapshot of time – not the absolute truth.

And your future: depends on the actions you take today.

Whatever you don’t like in this world, you have the power to change it.

You have the power to:

  • Overcome fear

  • Overcome self doubt or negative self talk

  • Let go of fear of judgment

  • Change your emotional state in an instant

  • Create your own reality and achieve autonomy

You will develop motivation, enthusiasm and a burning desire to grow, overcome your limitations and do whatever it takes to break free!

However the path is not easy. But the easy way usually does not lead to success and long term fulfillment.

If you are trapped inside a box, hold on to negative beliefs about yourself or feel limited in any way, take one step towards your freedom now.

Reclaiming your freedom and your power starts with one decision: The decision to change – no matter what it takes.

I challenge you to make that decision today!

I invite you to begin journaling about anything that you don’t like. The anti-vision of the life you desire! And then, think about how life would be if you could break free from all of your limitations.

Challenge the current paradigm. Once you make that decision and take that first step – nothing will be able to stop you.
