If you are anything like me, autonomy is one of your biggest values in life.
Many people value autonomy, yet they desire to fit in and fulfill other people’s expectations.
You cannot create autonomy while trying to fit in. I order for you to fit in, you have to give up their true identity When the fear of judgment or punishment overrides the pursuit of autonomy, personal freedom is at risk
Black Sheep of Society!
Those who value autonomy most are often seen as the “Black Sheep” of Society.
Their desire for freedom becomes so strong that they will do whatever it takes to reclaim their power – sometimes to their own disadvantage.
They will fight with every resource they have to achieve the highest form of freedom.
To the degree that they will rather do what hurts or harms them than being told what to do!
This can manifest in various ways:
-
Addiction and self-destructive behaviors
-
Resistance to authority and structure
-
Difficulty maintaining traditional employment
-
Feelings of misunderstanding and judgment from others
The result? A cycle of depression, anxiety, and further self-sabotage.
If you fall within this category, finding meaningful employment can be quite a challenge – you don’t like to take orders. You don’t like structure or being told when and where to work or what to focus on.
In fact, if you do happen to find yourself working for anything else than what you truly desire – your life’s purpose, self harming behavior might take over.
That is how I felt when I was working a full time job. Although I had more freedom than most people who work in a regular job – I felt empty, lost and rebellious!
The Paradox of Freedom
Doing whatever you want whenever you want isn’t true freedom – it’s anarchy. Fighting against all constraints often leaves you drained and trapped in a loop of dependency, whether it’s to substances or a monthly paycheck.
However, you don’t need to fight for autonomy. When you fight – someone else will always fight back. However, you can create it rather than fighting for it!
What is the solution
The solution is rather simple. Many have achieved it before you – you know it’s possible. Significantly more however have failed.
The challenging part is not to find the solution. It is actually doing the work.
You hold the key to freedom in your own hand.. And therefore can create autonomy for yourself! You just can’t see or understand it yet. Or you are simply too lazy to use it and turn the lock!
This leads to long term dependency on others. You end up in a cycle of blame and regret- while freely giving you power and attention away.
In order to reclaim your power and open the gates towards freedom and there is only one skill that you need to learn:
The Key to True Autonomy: Self-Mastery
You need to become the Master over your own mind! The most powerful technology known to mankind – yet, vastly misunderstood by the masses!
Socrates wisely said:
The truly free individual is free only to the extent of his own self-mastery. While those who will not govern themselves are condemned to find masters to govern over them.
What does it mean to become the master of your own mind?
You have to learn to direct your focus – towards your goal, without letting any external distractions stop you from achieving that goal!
It requires getting out of your thinking mind. The one that holds on to self doubt, a distorted image of who you are. You need to learn being proactive instead of reactive.
Steps to Self-Mastery
-
Master your emotions: Become aware of your feelings without immediately acting on them.
-
Examine your inner narrative: Challenge limiting beliefs and replace them with empowering ones.
-
Uncover unconscious patterns: Identify habits and conditioning that no longer serve you.
-
Take full responsibility: Own every aspect of your life without blame or criticism of others.
-
Become proactive: Direct your energy towards your goals instead of reacting to distractions.
When you fail in any of these aspects above, you will always focus your energy towards distractions, things you don’t like, other people’s needs.
You fail to aim your energy towards your own goal, towards autonomy.
Life is a game.
And those who learn to play by the rules of life will live exceptionally well, while the other 99% will blame the successful 1% for their own failures.
To be free one must become a slave to a set of laws. – Cicero –
I truly believe Cicero referred to the laws we set for ourselves – not laws that others set for us.
If you are a Black Sheep and strive for autonomy, these are the only laws you will follow.
Which makes it even more important to create a set of non-negotiable laws for yourself to follow.

A Growth Mindset
The Power of Structure and Routine
You need to replace old habits that keep you slave to the system and recreate new habits that empower you. Habits that catapult you towards success.
Creating a personal structure and following routines is essential for getting out of your mind and into purposeful action. As you develop new habits with great discipline, they become part of who you are – unconscious patterns that support your goals.
You learn to create order within consciousness. And when there is order, there is clarity.
Breathwork: A Catalyst for Transformation
Breathwork has been a powerful catalyst in my journey of self discovery.
With breathwork I was able to release emotions that were suppressing in my body:
Anger. Resentment. Frustration.
For the first time, I clearly saw how my beliefs and my inner narrative kept me tapped in the cycle of opiate addiction. Each time I blamed substances or others for my failures, I was unconsciously giving away my power – the very thing I was fighting to reclaim.
The practice taught me a profound truth: true growth lies beyond the comfort zone. Inside our comfortable patterns – even the painful ones – there can be no real fulfillment or transformation.
Through breathwork, I gained deeper access to my subconscious mind. What started as a practice for emotional release became a gateway to endless possibilities. I watched my mindset transform from fixed to growth-oriented, from victim to creator
The Science Behind the Transformation
I believe the combination of ancient breathwork wisdom and modern neuroscience creates a unique key for unlocking human potential. It’s not just spiritual practice – it’s a scientifically-backed tool for transformation.
The power of breathwork:
-
Self-Discovery: Facilitates deep self-reflection and introspection
-
Emotional Release: Provides a safe container for releasing stuck emotions
-
Perspective Shift: Helps reframe past experiences in a new light
-
Belief Transformation: Supports the replacement of limiting beliefs with empowering ones
-
Spiritual Growth: Teaches surrender and acceptance without losing personal power
The Journey to Freedom
The road to autonomy and freedom can be long. Or as the Beatles say: A long and winding road. It can be filled with roadblocks, setbacks and failures and requires discipline, persistence and consistency.
But the truth is: The fulfillment you’ll find along the way makes every step worth taking. Each obstacle to overcome strengthens your entire being. Each setback teaches you valuable lessons.
Freedom isn’t just a distant dream – it’s accessible to those who:
-
Are willing to see past their self-imposed limitations
-
Remain open to considering new perspectives
-
Commit fully to doing the inner work
Take Action Now
If this resonates with you, commit to taking the first step now. Make the decision to reclaim your power. Only you know what you need to do – it might be that one thing you’ve been putting off.
Remember: The first step is always the most difficult one. But once you create momentum and energy is moving, you become unstoppable.
